This report conveys the current research on sleep patterns in adolescents, factors contributing to chronic sleep loss (ex: electronic media use, caffeine consumption), and health-related consequences, such as depression, increased obesity risk, and higher rates of drowsy driving accidents. The report also discusses the potential role of later school start times as a means of reducing adolescent sleepiness. The information provided in this research report is vital for me since I will use this research to further my understanding on how and why pediatric patients are so effected by lack of sleep. I will use this study to learn about the different and specific types of growth and development issues that affect pediatric patients. After reading Mr. Owens's report, I have received a better understanding of my research topic and I now know the various types of issues I will need to address and further research about, in order for my capstone project to be successful. Furthermore, I believe this source is credible because it includes research conducted by Judith Owens, MD, MPH, FAAP, ADOLESCENT SLEEP WORKING GROUP, and COMMITTEE ON ADOLESCENCE; all highly qualified professionals in this particular field. Most importantly, this report includes an array of professional studies and research points conducted by different people and this makes the report more credible because more than one group or person is suggesting and can prove one topic with confidence. Additionally, I have selected a few of Mr. Judith Owens's quotes that pose an important role in his article. These quotes are essential in alerting the readers about the main and most significant points addressed by his work and other professional research.

Throughout my internship experience I have learned may different aspects of the pediatrics field. Since January, my mentor has been providing me unique opportunities to receive hands-on intensive learning. As for my capstone project, I have been interviewing professionals in the medical field aside from my mentor, in order to gather quality research on my topic. I have finalized my capstone research project to center around the question: how does lack of sleep affect growth and development in children? What changes can be made to help future generations reduce risks associated with sleep deprivation? Additionally, I have been conducting independent research to further my understanding of the research topic as well as preparing various forms of visuals such as brochures, Power Points and interactive flyers. As my internship progresses I hope to conduct more interviews, receive in depth hands-on experience and take on more responsibilities as I have begun to do recently.

The author of this article writes about the various effects of sleep deprivation in children and further explains ways to overcome these issues. He mentions various effects on the child's body and he backs up his facts by including other professional opinions, for example, "A recently published study showed that children with growth hormone deficiency, experienced substantially less sleep and lower quality of sleep compared to children with normal level of growth hormone" (Pearl 2). The information provided in this article is vital for me since I will use this research to further my understanding on how and why children are so effected by lack of sleep. I will use this study to learn about the different and specific types of growth and development issues that affect pediatric patients. After reading Mr. Pearl's article, I have received a better understanding of my research topic and I now know the various types of issues I will need to address and further research about, in order for my capstone project to be successful. Furthermore, I believe this source is credible because it includes research written by Zach Pearl, a highly qualified professional with a PhD. Additionally, Pearl not only writes from his own studies but he also includes scientific references in his article in order to validate it even more. For instance he references several other research efforts such as the FLAME study. Additionally, I have selected a few of Mr. Pearl's quotes that pose an important role in his article. These quotes are essential in alerting the readers about the main and most significant points addressed by his work and other professional research.
